Icabob's RefugeI love all of you who leave comments. Feedback is an artist's best friend. 2007/12/19 The Switch to FacebookThat's it. This site of mine is out the window. Nobody reads the crap that Windows Live tries to offer. This is dead. It's time to make a shift to where I can get my shit out there. I'm morphing my profile to show off all of my work, including my writings. So here might be the first Facebook blog, but hopefully I'll be the one to make something out of it. Let's do this. For Erlend Øye. This guy seems pretty fuckin brilliant. 2007/11/17 Some lyrics... More to followThere's power, connected free
the way the trees collide, like
stars in streams that feed
their roots beside the lights
of life that glow to suit
our eyes that see nothing
like this at all
And we're lucky
to be still standing
on our hollowed ground
And we're lucky
to be still born
while stillness moves around
And we're lucky
to be still silent
in the face of powered sound
There's life beyond this state
that still creates surreal, to
find the false in minds
of man. Reveal the darkened
hearts inside yourselves
and heal the evil
in this world
There will be music to follow shortly. Although this is for a project in English - Creative Writing, I'm not letting any parameters of the assignment limit me in any way. Mostly because I'm the one setting out the parameters. I'm pretty proud of these, and pretty proud of the music thus far. It's all coming along nicely, so expect a somewhat finished piece soon. Yay! My lyrics don't suck as much anymore. 2007/8/20 Wii're really playing now!So I just got my Wii hooked up to the net, via Wi-Fi USB dealy thing. First thing to do? Get Wii points and download all of them classic games. Mario, Mario 2. I had to buy a classic controller to play Link to the Past, but now that's up and running too. I thought it was stupid, though, how a Gamecube controller was more expensive (by about 75%) than the new classic controller. Oh well. So that ups my Wii game collection to 5. Prince of Persia is still on my to buy list, and right now I'm just waiting for Dragon Quest, maybe Fire Emblem, Super Mario Galaxy. It's tough though, seeing as how I'm always poor and most Wii games are 60+ bucks. Plus I don't want to end up with a bad purchase. Some game that looked cool, seemed to get good reviews, yet ended up being crap. I could buy Red Steel, but we'll already have a copy in Luther this year. The new Resident Evil could be something, but I've never been a fan of zombie games. So taking those risks into account, it's easy to see why I've been so excited for the Virtual Console. These are the games they NEED to come out with on the VC: Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES) Chrono Trigger (SNES)------\ Tales of Phantasia (SNES)----I-----would pay big money for these three Star Ocean (SNES)----------/ Keith Courage in Alpha Zones (TurboGrafx-16) And I just found out they're going to release Super Mario RPG for SNES on the VC sometime. Another on my to buy list. Did anyone know that the new Chronicles of Narnia movie is coming out next year? Prince Caspian. Somehow that slipped under my radar until I saw the game version of the movie on the list of upcoming Wii games. Anyways, as much as I'm enjoying my Wii, THIS game is probably the most original one I've seen in a while: Seriously... BioShock will kick ass. 2007/7/31 I Lived On The MoonOh that Stumble button... Most of the time, it's pretty worthless crap, and wastes my otherwise productive time. But every now and again, I find something utterly amazing. Something I should be sharing. Now, to start off, I have some big beefs with Hollywood. Today, I'll beef it up about Pixar and the like. Now, these guys aren't shitty. They know how to do their stuff, and they've been turning out some pretty funny crap. But when I see ads for "Surf's Up" that critics say is "the most original animated film yet," I'm going to have some problems with that. I haven't watched it yet, so I'm sure it's going to be a grand ole time like most of these animated family comedies are. I love to laugh. I still find Finding Nemo to be a good watch. Monster House happens to be my favourite animated film, and although it is the one that should be labeled most original, that is only out of the existing animated family comedy films. These guys should be breaking away from that genre. They have so much damn potential at their unlimited disposal. Oh yeah, I guess I should mention TMNT... it was alright. And just alright. They still had the comedy part involved (although they were really sad jokes), but the action was pretty cool... but it came from an existing series. That's what tied it down, and made so... so-so. Anyways, I shouldn't talk about breaking away from the animated family comedy genre too much, lest somebody beats me to the idea. So here's a sweetass music video (I also have a beef with music videos that I will talk about later) I think you would all enjoy: (by the by, the song is by Kwoon - I Lived On The Moon) 2007/4/2 Cannibinoid UpdateOkay, after a bit more random research, I thought I better get this out there as soon as possible so that people wouldn't call me on my mistaken bullshit (as if anybody reads it anyways). So, I mistakenly said that "the government also told us that marijuana gives us cancer, which is bullshit." Not true. There are carcinogenic ingredients in pot, but THC, the active ingredient, is not in any way carcinogenic. However, you can filter out the shitty stuff using a water bong or vapor-bong because THC is not water soluble, while the cancer-causing crap is. Get it? Passing the smoke through water screens it, so you end up with mostly all THC and cannabidiol, nothing bad for your lungs, just good for your brain. Just make sure to put new water in your bong every now and then. I still want to find instructions for a good vapor-bong, because they look and work hella cool. 2007/2/28 It Has Been So LongOh Meadow Lake, always giving me headaches... of an extreme sort. So chillin with J-Sten was pretty stellar, as always, and then we managed to track down Josh which was even twice as good. Sure, we didn't get to jam near as much as I would've liked, and I never did track down Jordan, Charolyn or Kerry, but it was still a pretty good time. Pretty good, until we went to Tony's "party." I don't know, I think when somebody tries to throw a party every night for twenty nights in a row, the quality isn't going to be that good. Especially in Meadow Lake. Oh yeah, when I had that basement suite, it went alright, because there weren't tons of people over every time. Mainly just kept it to a weekend sort of thing for the ultimate get-togethers. But that place? Man, I didn't think we actually kept our old place clean, but I hadn't seen this basement yet. I ended up going to the bathroom twice, but I would've been better off to piss outside and wash my hands with the snow I just pissed on. It would've been that much cleaner. And then I at least would've gotten some fresh air. The place was tiny, and when a dozen people have their cigarettes lit up for the entire time they're there, I'm not going to be able to handle it. And I found this out the hard way. What did I have, three beers? And all of a sudden I got this weird buzzing in my ears. And I tried to say "Josh, I need some fresh air." I guess I didn't quite get the point across, and didn't look sick enough to match the way I felt. I got up, and then things started to get really hazy. I stumbled about halfway across the room, tripping over half the shit that was in the way, and tripping on things that just weren't there. And then mid-step, I passed out. Everything just went blank, and I had the sense of falling. To tell you the truth, it felt like dying. And as welcome as I am for death to find me so I can find what's on that other side, I wasn't ready for it. I sure don't want to die anytime soon. I've got too many things going for me. Leanne. She's the top of my list. I care more about her than this education, than my music, than anything I've ever come across in this life of mine. So after I opened my eyes (which felt like a damn good fifteen minutes... kindof scary), and seeing all the people looking down on me, I realized I still wasn't outside, where I needed to be. I tried to get up, and ended up falling down again. Then I realized that the first time I fell, I had smacked my head pretty damn hard on the floor. I also have a strange scratch on my chest which mysteriously appeared after the night's events. So I ended up getting the hell out of there (much much much thanks to Josh. You are a bro.) and resting in the snow, resting on some car, and just chilling out to clear up my head. Oh yeah, and Josh said I had only been out for something like 3 seconds. Messed up, eh? In the end, it was time for Josh to jet, and I was sleeping over at J-Stens, so we walked a ways until we had to split, and he even lent me his deadly warm coat. This is why I can't stand smoking. It can very likely kill you, and you aren't getting any extra respect or idolization from doing it. So that was the bad part of my stay back at home. Otherwise, it wasn't too eventful. I managed to successfuly transfer my usb flash drive into a red and black lego casing. Very vintage, very deadly. Loaded some wood. Finished (and started) my one-take video for Film 200. Gerald seemed to like it, so I'm looking forward to next monday to get my mark, and to do this sweet-ass group project witih the Bolex film cameras! And nowadays, I'm still doing the same old thing. Making music, making 3D animations, thinking up sweet ideas for film class, dissing and disliking our crappy film 251 prof. And speaking of 3D modelling and animating... I've got a new project. Yes, I know I haven't completely finished the sub. I just need to give it a paint job, maybe some decals, and interior detailing. Which is, yes, harder than it sounds. And I've also been having troubles with Lisa's "Pixie Kist" design. Sure, the logo wasn't that hard once I traced out the original lettering... but making organic shapes (ie: trees) can be quite a bitch in Blender. So this project I'm doing now is pretty geometrical and straight forward. I even have a bit of reference! which always works better for me for creating these things. I guess I should start sketching out my projects before I partake in them... But anyways. If you people have never heard of the game Loom, download it. I'm serious. It's legal because the copyright is now overdue. Made by LucasArts, if you believe it. Anyways, this game has had a lot of influence on me. One time, I had just finished playing it, and then I did it all over again to type up a script version of the game. So it's an adventure point-and-click game, totally old school. So here is where you can find a good amount of information on the game, as well as a script of the 30 minute audio drama that came with the CD version of the game. And there are links there, one of which leads to where you can download the audio drama. My suggestion? Read the description and listen to the audio drama. If still interested, download the game here and enjoy! Oh yeah... the project? I'm doing a rendition of the dungeon scene with Bobbin (the main character), Bishop Mandible (one of the antagonists), and Cob, the henchman reminiscent of Dr. Frankenstein's assistant, Igor. Trust me, even if you aren't a big game player, the story will be enough to drive you onwards. Although the controls accessing the menu aren't displayed anywhere, I'll tell you right now, F5 is all you need. Oh yeah, and if you do end up playing it, at the beginning, it will ask you some weird random question, and you have to click some symbols to continue. Just click randomly on the symbols, and you can go on. Ooh! I almost forgot. There was some big news that happened around Valentine's Day, but I'm not going to spread it to the entire world (wide web). Those of you who know will be laughing, and those of you who don't... Step One: ___ _ ____ __ ___ ___! P.S. Here's the pics of the Loom scene, and what I've got so far: 2007/1/30 Less stories, More storiesHoly crap... that was basically my first concert, and I sure wasn't let
down. Everyone rocked, and the energy and music good better and
stronger as each band rocked on stage. I started out with seat tickets
(R5), but once Billy Talent played their second song, I couldn't stand
it any longer, and started rocking out right at the front by the blue
fence. Well, luckily, their lighting system calls for a blackout after
every song, and once the third or something one was over, I vaulted the
boards, vaulted the fence, and made a clean getaway before even my
girlfriend right beside me knew that I was gone. Of course, I ran like
fuck into the crowd because I could've sworn I heard running footsteps
behind me. They were probably just my own, but I couldn't tell with all
the blood rushing in my ears. And from then on I rocked out hardcore.
Spent the rest of their set jumping, and when I wasn't on my feet, I
was on my back above the entire crowd. Oh, and thanks to those bouncers
at the front who gently let me down like a baby. Hehehe, suckers don't
know I didn't legally belong there. Saw alot of little kids in the
crowd, that was kindof weird. So me and some random dudes threw one of
them into the crowd, and he basically flew. We most definitely made his
life. Then I got into a hardcore mosh circle and came out with a bloody
nose and mouth. All I could say afterwards when my friends looked at my
face in horror was "THAT WAS FUCKING AWESOME!" I probably didn't have
to scream it, but I'm going to be deaf for the next week. And it sucks
to walk stairs. Damn calves. And my neck is in pain. Oh, but was it
ever worth it. Fuck, Yes. P.S. Pictures from the concert on here as well. Also, here is a link to all the music I've been listening to: http://www.last.fm/user/Icabobster/ |
